West African Media Foundation Delegation Gains Insight into NIA’s Operations
On Thursday, 2nd November 2023, the National Identification Authority (NIA) welcomed a high-profile delegation from the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA). This distinguished team of 20 fellows and 5 executives hailing from across West Africa, representing countries such as Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Senegal, Burkina Faso, and Ghana, embarked on an enlightening journey to delve into the inner workings of NIA’s operations.
The visit, organized under the Digital Public Infrastructure Journalism Fellowship Programme, aimed to foster a deeper understanding of the multifaceted aspects of the NIA’s mission and its significant role in enhancing national and regional identity infrastructure.
With an atmosphere of anticipation and curiosity, Executive Secretary, Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attatuah treated the delegation to a comprehensive presentation on NIA. Prof. Attatuah’s in-depth insights into NIA’s journey, initiatives, operations, next steps and achievements left the visiting journalists and media executives impressed and informed. Following the engaging presentation, the 20 fellows posed a series of thoughtful and probing questions to the NIA leadership. These questions spanned NIA’s activities, covering topics from data sharing and data security to biometrics technology, and each inquiry was met with thorough and satisfying answers.
The delegation expressed their gratitude for the warm reception, and openness and transparency displayed by the NIA. The insights gained during their visit are expected to provide a solid foundation for their future journalism endeavours in the realm of digital public infrastructure.
This unique exchange of knowledge and understanding between the NIA and the MFWA delegation is indicative of the growing importance of fostering cooperation and knowledge sharing within West Africa. As the delegation concludes their visit, they carry with them a wealth of new knowledge and insights to share with their respective audiences, fostering a brighter future for journalism in the sub-region.
