THE INFORMATION BELOW IS FOR THE ATTENTION OF STAFF OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED INSTITUTIONS

In accordance with section 3 of the National Identity Register Amendment Act, 2017 (Act 950), applicants for registration shall be required to establish their eligibility to register and be issued with the Ghana Card by providing any one of the following identity documents:

  1. A birth certificate;
  2. A valid passport;
  3. A valid certificate of acquired citizenship; and
  4. Any other information as may be required by the Authority.

It must be noted that this special registration exercise will cover only officials of the respective institutions who possess one or more of the above primary identity documents. Applicants who lack any of the said primary identity documents will be registered during the Mass Registration Phase of the exercise. In such circumstances, an applicant would have to be identified and vouched for as a Ghanaian by one registered relative or by any two registered persons who will swear an oath to that effect before a Commissioner for Oaths.

All prospective applicants for registration are required to present the Ghana Post Digital Address Code of their residence(s) to the Registration Officials at the time of registration.

Other Identity Documents of Applicants

NIA requires all prospective applicants for registration to present all other state-issued identity documents or ID cards they possess, such as driver’s license, voter ID card, National Health Insurance card, SSNIT Biometric card, and Tax Identification number to the Registration Official at the time of registration. These documents cannot be used to establish eligibility to register as a Ghanaian and to receive the Ghana Card. The NIA will scan and keep electronic copies of these documents for record purposes and return them to the applicants. The object of collecting these records is to ensure effective data harmonization and integration in Ghana as an important step in the formalization of the national economy.
