NIA TO MEET PARLIAMENT’S COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE

The Parliament of Ghana will on Tuesday, 12th June 2018 grant audience to the National Identification Authority (NIA) to brief the august House on the implementation of the National Identification System (NIS) Project, particularly the roll-out of the mass registration and instant card issuance exercise.

This follows the decision of the leadership of the House to approve the NIA's request, made through its sector Minister Hon. Anthony Akoto Osei, for an opportunity to brief the parliamentarians as part of the NIA's on-going Stakeholder Engagements with key institutions and influencers in the country in order to educate them on the NIS and enlist their support for the registration exercise.

Accordingly, Parliament will constitute itself into a Committee of the Whole for the purpose of the briefing.

The NIA has already engaged with such eminent persons as former President's J. J. Rawlings and J.A. Kuffour, the Honourable Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Akuffo, the National Chief Imam, Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu.

Similarly, the NIA has met with the National House of Chiefs and the leaderships of the Security Services, the Department of Social Welfare, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Journalist Association, Ghana Bar Association, the Progressive People's Party, the Convention People's Party, the National Democratic Congress, and the New Patriotic Party.
